Sun Protection

One of the most damaging things for our skin is the sun. WIthout proper precaution or protection, sunburns can permanently damage your skin, and make serious issues in the future. Be sure that you always wear sunscreen, seek shade, or wear long sleeves/protective clothing when you are going to be outside for long periods of time. Be sure to always wear sunglasses outside to protect your eyes and the sensitive skin around them. Ultraviolet rays can cause serious damage to the eyes, and in rare cases of extreme exposure, it can even sunburn them! Remember that even on cloudy days, ultraviolet rays can still penetrate and cause serious damage to your skin. If you’re outside for several hours, be sure to reapply sunscreen for full and lasting protection. Tanned skin can be desirable, but do not use tanning beds. They cause damage to the skin which can be even stronger than the rays of the sun.

Drink Water

The more hydrated you stay, the more healthy your skin will be! Water helps your skin maintain moisture, which increases its elasticity. This increased elasticity can help you have fewer wrinkles and fine lines in your skin. Water helps keep your skin hydrated, which combats a range of skin issues like psoriasis and eczema. When you are drinking a lot of water, the healing process for your skin can be sped up. Healing from a sunburn or small abrasions will happen more easily when you are fully hydrated.Throughout the days, our pores can become clogged with dirt and dust. When you drink enough water, the balance of oil and water on the surface of your skin can become more equalized which will reduce your pore size and decrease acne breakouts.

Exercise Regularly

Getting regular physical activity that actually makes you sweat is a wonderful way to clean out the pores in your skin. By raising your heart rate for 40-50 minutes several times a week can gently work to purify your skin and keep it healthy. Exercise promotes greater circulation to all areas of your body. Better circulation improves the skin’s appearance, and will promote detoxification and cellular renewal.

Don’t Smoke

Smoking is not only bad for your lungs, but it can seriously hurt your skin’s overall health. Smoking decreases the elasticity and blood flow to your skin over time. This leads to excess wrinkles, slower healing from wounds and abrasions, loss of skin tone, and more. Simply by quitting, you can heal some of the damage that smoking has caused. In the case of wrinkles, they may never fully go away after you quit smoking, but the return of excess blood flow to your skin can lead to higher elasticity and better skin health.

Be Gentle

Don’t be too rough on your skin when you are going through your normal skincare routine. Avoid long hot baths or showers, and use warm water instead. Prolonged heated bathing removes helpful oils from your skin. When shaving, take care to apply shaving cream or lotion to your skin each time in order to avoid unnecessary cuts. Be sure to shave with the grain of your hair instead of against it as well. After bathing, dry your skin by patting or blotting the wet areas instead of harshly scrubbing yourself dry. Regularly moisturize your skin with lotions and soothing creams to promote soft and elastic skin. Nobody knows your skin better than you, so seek lotions that are built specifically for your particular skin type.

Eat Healthy

Balancing your diet with fruits, veggies, grains, and proteins can help your body promote healthy skin. Diets that are lower in unhealthy fats and refined carbohydrates can help your skin look younger. This kind of diet not only helps the skin, but will increase your overall health. It is recommended that you eat at least seven servings of fruits and vegetables each day. You could also take whole-food vitamin supplements to make sure your body is receiving the proper amount of nutrients and minerals.

Manage Stress

Managing stress in your life is much easier said than done, but stressed minds lead to unhealthy skin.
